About Me

I received a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Syracuse University in New York and a MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant International University in San Diego. I was drawn to Alliant International University because of its emphasis on compassionately understanding people in the context of their families. While at Alliant, I learned that Syracuse University’s Marriage and Family Therapy program had an outstanding reputation for its training in cultural diversity and social justice. I decided to pursue a doctoral degree in this program in order to enrich my understanding of the ways in which culture and social privilege inform my own life as well as the lives of others. In addition to working in clinical office settings, I have also worked for several years as a home-based therapist in economically disadvantaged communities in Syracuse, New York and the San Francisco Bay area.

Through my education and experience I have developed a tenacious spirit of hope.

I believe therapy can lead to more satisfying lives and relationships for all people in all situations. I am always interested in processes that facilitate healing and growth. I’m particularly interested in the intersections between social privilege, oppression, loss, self-worth, and relationships.

I currently see clients in private practice and contract with community-based mental health programs. In addition to clinical practice, my passion for the field of marriage and family therapy has led me to become an associate professor and clinical training director in the Masters in Counseling program at Palo Alto University. I am also a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and the American Counseling Association.

In my free time I enjoy swing dancing, live music, trying new food, hiking, mountain biking, surfing, traveling and spending time with my family and friends. Currently, my favorite creative outlet is attempting to master the voices of all the Harry Potter characters as I read the books to my nephew.
